It allows people to get easy links and you get more comments. Its a win win for everyone. On my blog I always make sure they give a little effort for the link. Whether the perosn is commenting for a link or not comments like "great post" are taken care of. If you want a link I make you type a little for it.

Re: Get rewarded for comments with do-follow

I'd agree - I think Akismet has only missed one item of spam and got now false positives and to date it has caught 400+ spam comments!

Re: Get rewarded for comments with do-follow

I haven't seen major benefits and my spam filters are still doing a great job. At this point, I can't see any reason to reinstate no-follow links.

Re: Get rewarded for comments with do-follow

I think that this is an amazing concept. I have seen so many benefits. Since you have started Do-Follow what have you felt about it so far? Have you seen many beneifts? I know some people are concerned about how many links they give out, but I have seen that if you spent enough time out in the blog world communicating then it won't matter.

Re: Get rewarded for comments with do-follow

I had the same concern about "great post" type comments. Either way I think only 3 people read my blog (me at home, me at work, me on my mobile phone! lol), so it probably won't be a problem!

I have however used the wordpress plugin to only make then "followable" (is that a word?) after 24 hours, allowing me to cut out any dross that gets added! Fortunately Akismet does a reasonable job of that!

Re: Get rewarded for comments with do-follow

Thanks a million for linking to me!

I haven't seen a huge increase in comments since adding the DO follow plugin but it definitely has helped. I also haven't had a problem with comment spam, Akismet is taking care of 99% of that for me.

Hope to see you around again soon...

James

Re: Get rewarded for comments with do-follow

I saw your post on David Airy's site that you've joined the Do Follow movement, and I see that you're using it.

I recently wrote a post on the DO Follow movement in attempt to encourage others to follow suit.

I’ve added your blog to the list of Bloggers using DO Follow with link to your home page here:

http://www.fastlanetransport.ca/blog/i-will-fol...

The post for this is also on my blogroll so it doesn’t get buried in the archives.

Cheers!

Re: Get rewarded for comments with do-follow

Frank,

I see your point as well, especially regarding the "great post" style comments. Perhaps I will have some kind of filter to prevent "lame" comments, but until it becomes a problem, I think "the benefits far outweigh whatever negatives there might be" as David put it.

The do-follow plugin seems to be working great so far considering I've had 2 comments on this post, it's Sunday, and North America isn't even out of bed yet. We'll see how it goes. :)

Thank you both for your feedback.

Re: Get rewarded for comments with do-follow

You're very welcome, James.

I can see where Frank is coming from with his reluctance, but in my view the benefits far outweigh whatever negatives there might be.

It's great that you've joined the no nofollow community. I hope that you too find an increase in constructive comments.

Re: Get rewarded for comments with do-follow

Won't you wonder if people are just self promoting rather than joining in discussion with you?

I'm not so sure about the push to dofollow just yet...
